A Cheap Chinese Puffer – Is It Any Good?

Back in January I bought two very cheap puffer jackets from Shein. This is the first one and I paid less than 20 euros for it (shipping included). It is a cropped puffer for women. While I can put it on and zip it no problems, it does look ridiculous on me (I am a man), but I am reviewing this for any women reading this, or men who may be interested in buying similar items for the wife/girlfriend. This particular jacket is no longer available to buy, but I imagine similar looking jackets will be available when we get closer to winter again.

The jacket has a large ribbed collar which zips all the way to the top.

There are no pockets on the inside or outside which is kind of a shame, but I get that they are going for as cheap as possible.

You can certainly tell that this is a cheap jacket by the fabric and the fact that it’s very light. Still, I would say it’s a well made jacket. The zipper, for example, does go all the way to the tips of the collar. There’s no “gap” to speak of. Things line up properly.

The zipper, unfortunately, is a bit rough. You will have no problems zipping the jacket to where the collar starts, but then things get fiddlier. I have to hold the collar up, while pulling the zipper all the way to the top.

The standout feature of the jacket is no doubt the collar, which you can style in various ways depending on mood or weather: keep it open, zip it halfway up, zip it into a turtleneck, or zip it over the face like a mask!

Pros:

  • Stylish.
  • Cheap.
  • Full zip-through oversized collar. Can be zipped up in front of the face like a mask.

Cons:

  • The zipper is rough.
  • No pockets.
  • The colour. You can’t tell because I turned the photos black and white, but it’s a poo-shade of brown.

Update (2024-07-01): The collar on this jacket really is awesome. Too bad I can’t go out in public with it (it is ridiculously short).
