This is the January 2023 installment of my monthly rundown of some of the best zip collar gear to buy right now.
To be included on this list, the items should meet these criteria:
- They should have zip collars!
- The collars should be on the larger side!
- They should be available to buy right now. However, I will not publish prices or stores as they are due to change. Instead google the name of the product you’re interested in.
Let’s start!
First out we have shearling jackets and coats from Jean Paul Gaultier. The official names of the jackets and coats (in the order pictured below) are “The laminated green jacket”, “The laminated black jacket”, “The laminated green coat”, and “The laminated black coat”. I love the clean designs of these. And the collars zip! (Some shearling jackets have straps and buckles to put up the collars, which is just too fiddly.)
Next up: The Bunny Cropped Ski Jacket by POSTER GIRL. I had not heard of this brand before, but apparently it’s based out of London.
We will end with a number of Moncler jackets and a coat! Moncler can usually be trusted with having jackets with larger collars in their yearly winter collections.
This is the Chamoille Long Down Jacket. It looks incredibly warm! The fur on the collar does come off (it is attached with snaps) and I imagine you would have to remove it before zipping the collar since it would otherwise get stuck in the zipper. I should also say that the fur is synthetic.
Next up: The Moncler Cluses Short Down Jacket. This is a ski jacket, but I wouldn’t let that stop me from wearing it as an everyday jacket; that collar will come in handy on cold mornings waiting for buses and trains (and you can use the pocket on the arm for your travel card or ticket)! It is available in single colours or with two different patterns.
Next: The Moncler Chambairy. If you prefer a shiny finish to the fabric then this jacket may be for you. It is also available in more colours than the Cluses and there are versions with prints as well.
Want fur on the collar? Then you should consider the Moncler Groisy Short Down Jacket. The fur is synthetic and it can be unsnapped from the collar.
Late edition: The Z-2 Aviator Leather Jacket by KNWLS. If you’re looking for a leather bomber with a wide zip collar, this should probably be on your short list!
